Dr. Bongers joined Skin Care Doctors in 2017. She was accepted into the University of Minnesota Medical School’s “Advanced Admission Program” designed for students with plans for research and leadership after her freshman year at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN. This gave her automatic acceptance into medical school at the end of college and she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1994. Dr. Bongers graduated from medical school in 1999. She completed her residency in Family Practice at St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood, MN in 2003. She worked at Allina Clinic in Farmington, MN developing a dermatology emphasis in her practice and she also was the Site Medical Director. She subsequently joined Mayo Clinic Health System in 2011 to focus on dermatology within the Faribault Clinic and Owatonna Dermatology Department.
Dr. Bongers grew up in Mendota Heights, MN graduating from Visitation High School. She married her husband, Mark, in 1994 and lived in Highland Park in St. Paul. They moved with their 2 children, Cassie & Alex, to the country near Northfield in 2003. They also enjoy time together up north at their cabin. Dr. Bongers loves spending time with her family most of all, but also stays busy working on her music compositions (piano and choir pieces), photography, a family cookbook and a book about bringing balance into your life. She and her husband are active members of Divine Mercy Catholic Church, and they have worked with Worldwide Marriage Encounter since 2004.
Dr. Bongers clinical interests include medical dermatology with a focus on prevention, and she is passionate about detecting and treating skin cancer. She can take care of your family from full skin checks, including biopsying suspicious lesions, to understanding how chronic medical conditions can affect the skin. She treats acne, dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, and your family’s dermatology needs no matter what the age. She is available for appointments at both the Burnsville and Edina locations.
